Edward Albee

Edward Albee
As part of CLA's Master Class Series, "America's Greatest Living Playwright," Edward Albee was selected to deliver the first John William Proctor Distinguished Visiting Author Lecture. His week-long series of events included an "An Evening with Edward Albee" held on Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at 8:00 p.m. at the Jesse Hall Auditorium on the MU campus.

Edward Albee is the author of 28 plays and recipient of numerous awards including, among others, three Pulitzer Prizes (for A Delicate Balance in 1966, Seascape in 1975, and Three Tall Women in 1994), two Tony Awards (for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and The Goat), the New York Drama Critics Circle Award and the National Medal of Arts.

Sir Jonathan Miller

Sir Jonathan Miller
The Master Class Series was inaugurated in the spring of 2003 with a week-long visit from Sir Jonathan Miller. Dr. Miller is a world-renowned director of theatre (including The Merchant of Venice with Sir Lawrence Olivier and Joan Plowright), opera (including productions of Carmen and Rigoletto), and film (including The Beggar's Opera and eleven plays for BBC's prestigious Shakespeare series). He is a noted physician and neurologist who has written and presented several major television series.
