Introduction to the classification, occurrence and origin of rocks and rock-forming minerals. Prerequisites: GEOL 1100 or 1200 and CHEM 1310.

GEOL 4400/7400 Geomicrobiology and Microbial Biogeochemistry
Role of microbes in a variety of geological settings through time. Microbial roles in degradation of organic pollutants and transformation of toxic metals and radionuclides in contaminated environments. Prerequisite: GEOL 3250.

GEOL 8230 Groundwater and Subsurface Geomicrobiology
Distribution of microorganisms in subsurface environments and the effects of microbial activity on groundwater chemistry. In situ bioremediation of contaminated aquifers by subsurface microorganisms. Prerequisite GEOL 4400.
