Campus Offices and Organizations (in no particular order)

  • Faculty Environmental Research: a list of MU faculty doing enviromentally related research organized by area (biodiversity, human dimensions, natural resources, pollution and then by department)
  • Conservation Biology Seminar Series: organized by students in the Cons Bio graduate program, encourages an interdisciplinary approach to environmental issues
  • Recycling Management: links to the MU Recycling Guide and information about our major recycling efforts - Tiger Tailgate Recyling of containers at home football games and Tiger Treasures Spring Rummage Sale
  • Environmental Affairs Committee: makes recommendations to the Provost on environmental issues and practices - there is a link to its annual Campus Environmental Impacts report
  • Sustain Mizzou: the largest student environmental organization on campus - involved in or coordinating Tiger Tailgate Recycling, Local Food for Local People, Hinkson Stream Team, Recycled Notebooks and other projects
  • Greeks Going Green: environmental group for MU's Greek Community - no website yet for this new group, but check back later
  • Mizzou Botanic Garden: the campus is a nationally recognized botanical garden because of the variety of plantings it maintains
  • MU Campus Master Plan: this plan governs how and where MU will build and grow its physical infrastructure over the near future
  • Campus Facilities: gateway to MU's infrastructure - Energy Management, Landscape Services, Planning and Design, Maintenance, Custodial, Facilities Management
  • Energy Management: MU actually decreased its carbon dioxide emissions even as the campus grew larger - find out more about its conservation and renewable energy efforts

  • Big Canoe: a grassroots organization working on economic and environmental sustainability - their current focus is market gardens and sustainable home food production
  • Boone's Lick Master Naturalist Chapter: the Columbia chapter of the state Master Naturalist program - formal training leads to Master Naturalist certification
  • Greenbelt Coalition: promotes and protects green space
  • Katy Trail: interactive web site for a 'rails to trails' trail that follows the Missouri River
  • Finger Lakes State Park: state home page for the park
  • Rock Bridge Memorial State Park: state home page for the park
  • Friends of Rock Bridge Memorial State Park: friends group home page for Rock Bridge
  • Columbia Chapter - Native Plant Society: enjoyment, preservation and study of Missouri's native plants

  • Public Works Volunteering: help with city programs in composting, mulching, graffiti removal, household hazardous waste collection, adopt a spot litter control, stream cleanup, adopt a spot gardening, park patrol, photography and other activities
  • Community Garden Coalition: support, supplies and garden plots to low income families and the elderly
  • Show-Me Central Habitat for Humanity habitat for humanity helps low income families participate in creating their own homes - has a link to their "ReStore" where you can get new or gently used building supplies at a discount - M-F 8:30 - 3:30, Sat 8-1, 1906 Monroe

  • Boone County Smart Growth Coalition: coalition of local groups working on comprehensive, sustainable land use planning for the Columbia/Boone County area
  • Osage Group - Sierra Club: the local Sierra Club Chapter
  • Earth Day Coalition: coalition of city, business and non-profit groups that coordinate Columbia's annual earth day celebration in April. In 2008 - Sunday April 20 (raindate April 27) in Peace Park (MU campus) and downtown Columbia
  • Columbia League of Women Voters: links to local, state and government representatives, the Energy Matters Committee works to reduce Columbia's Greenhouse gas emissions
  • PedNet Coalition: working to make Columbia bikeable, walkable, wheelable
  • Columbia BioBlitz: annual event to census the species in the Flat Branch Watershed, coordinated by the MU Conservation Biology Students
