Calculating Work Hours

Your class schedule will dictate your work schedule to a large degree. The number of hours that you will work per week is calculated using the following formula:

_________Award amount for academic term

_________divide by the predetermined hourly wage

_________= Total hours of work

_________divide by number of weeks the student is to work

_________= Average hours per week

After determining the number of hours per week, a work schedule should be established between you and your immediate supervisor. It is crucial to the operation of the Work Study program that employers are able to depend on the student staff they have employed. As in any job, if you need time off, or if you will be late for work, you are expected to notify your supervisor ahead of time. An absence request form should be filled out, giving the time needed off and, if necessary, a substitute to fill the shift.
