Cynthia was born in Detroit Michigan. When she was 13, her
family moved to Lincoln Nebraska, where she graduated from Lincoln East High School in 1978. She began her undergraduate studies in elementary education at the University of Nebraska in 1978. She worked for a number of years in the insurance industry, serving as an
Underwriter and later as the Activities/Public Relations Director. She then went on to serve an eight-year career as an on-air radio personality and public service director for
W. O. N. E. radio. She has also worked in other areas such as retail sales, management, and personnel. She has even enjoyed a career as a fashion coordinator and emcee for
several local retail distributors.

After much contemplation, however, Cynthia returned to
school to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Communication Processes and Disorders. While
working as a Human Resources Administrator, where she was responsible for recruiting and interviewing potential job candidates, Cynthia continued her education and went on to receive a Master's degree in Journalism and Communication. It was later that she decided to work on a doctoral degree in Mass Communications.
While she was in graduate school, her research and area of study, conducted under the guidance of Dr.
Michael Weigold, was in the area of media use and consumer behavior. "Gratifications of Talk," by Frisby & Weigold (1994), was Cynthia's first conference
presentation. That paper set the foundation for her dissertation, "When Bad Things Happen: The self-enhancing effect of watching TV talk shows" (December, 1997).
Cynthia is married to Craig, who is an Associate
Professor of Education with the Educational Counseling Psychology program at the
University of Missouri. Craig primarily teaches graduate students in the school psychology program.
Cynthia and Craig have two children, Angela and
Marcus (pictured left). Angela, age 9, enjoys gymnastics, swimming, and dance. In her "spare time" she enjoys
reading, writing, meeting people. She is often described as a young girl who "knows no stranger." Marcus, now age 7, loves all kinds of sports,
particularly basketball, and hunting. He loves watching all three Star Wars movies and playing with his Playstation and Gameboy. But, most of all, the Frisby children say that
their greatest enjoyment comes from church and learning about Jesus Christ. What they seem to like most, they said, is watching their mom practice and sing in the praise band! (We are members fo E-free of Columbia Church and have been amazed at how God directed us there so that we as a family and as individuals might grow spiritually.
