new layouts

Yeah, yeah, I know, I love changing the layout on my pages. Blogger makes this super easy so all I have to do is click a button and I have a new style. I'm gonna stick with this one for a while, though, cause it's really good and it has a great blockquote. Yep.

Maddox rules

The Best Page in the Universe
The Best Page in the Universe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm pretty sure Maddox is just about the funniest guy ever. If you've never heard of Maddox or The Best Page in the Universe, you definitely should check it out now. Let me start with a warning, though: it's not for everyone. I've been reading his website for a couple years now and every article makes me bust out in laughter. Maddox writes like I used to: rants about anything that pisses him off. He writes about why he's great and why stuff he doesn't like sucks. He rants about everything from Star Wars to Cameron Diaz to Orbitz, the internet travel company. He even wrote a whole piece on why whales suck. He's been doing the page since 1997 and he used to write almost weekly, so there's plenty of archives to keep you busy for hours. I promise you'll laugh harder than you have in a long time.

almost 30% finished

Four finals down, just one to go. My sophomore year of college is going just as fast as my freshman year, if not a little faster. It's been an up and down semester but all in all things are looking pretty well. I did pretty well on my abnormal psychology final, I tore my accounting final apart, the statistics final wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, and speech...I hated that class anyway. It's gonna be great to get home and just hang out for a month. Actually, I just can't wait to get everything fixed (my computer, my phone, my mouth). So, here goes the packing , the econ final, and then... nothing. It'll be great.

Expect SOTW next week. And you know when I skip a week, the next one is always super good.

no sotw

My computer's still broken, so no SOTW this week. Sorry.

P.S. Wish me luck on finals, Statistics and Speech are both gonna rip me a new one.

new reads

I finished reading my backlog of books, so I need something new to read. Leave me a comment if you have any ideas.

good reads on a snowy day

Snow is falling like it's going out of style.

If you came here from my website, you probably noticed that it says I'm reading The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror by Christopher Moore. That is entirely false. I'm actually reading Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs, I just can't update my site right now. Anyway, one of the stories (or is it an essay?) in the book talks about becoming a writer and how he's noticed on the streets now that he has books published. I found that to be interesting because he talks about how writers have so many different levels of fame and can actually hold on to anonymity rather well. He mentions that whereas movie stars' faces are plastered up on huge screens, most people don't know an author's face unless they look at the back of the dust jacket. I've heard of numerous writers, but if I ever came across any on the street, I'd have no idea. (Heck, I came across Willie Nelson on the street and had no idea.) It doesn't really apply to my life or anything, I just found it an interesting look into semi-fame.

I don't know where this post was headed.

Snow!

broken

My computer broke yesterday (something about the cooling system) so you probably won't see me online any time soon. I'll do what I can to keep this updated.

SKY.fm

SKY.fm - net radio to the power of sky

Go listen to their "Modern Jazz" station. It's amazing. One of the best jazz stations I've ever heard. Ever.

Their "Classical Guitar" station is pretty good too.

Writely - The Web Word Processor

Writely - The Web Word Processor

Eric and I are in a group together in speech class and our final speech is, you guessed it, a group speech. We have to come up with a product or service and do a 15-25 minute sales presentation on it. Not my idea of a good time, but apparently it's benefitting me and my career, so I'm giving it a shot. Anyway, since our parts are pretty much the same thing, Eric and I decided to do a "volley" thing with the speech where we're gonna do our parts together and just badminton it back and forth to each other. A speech shuttlecock, if you will. To do this in the speech, however, our outline needed to follow this style, which meant we had to do our outlines together. (It would've been an emotionally scarring experience to do two separate outlines and then try to combine them.) So I looked all over the Internet for a collaborative word processor which is a lot harder task than I first thought. After a few misses, I came up with Writely, an online word processor that got the job done perfectly. With Writely, you can have multiple people all editing the same document at once. It isn't too full featured like Word or OpenOffice.org, but you can export your document to both of those formats to put the finishing touches on it offline. It greatly helped me out and if you ever need to work on a document with someone else, this is the way to go.

we got movie signs

Watched Snatch. tonight. It wasn't bad. I had a bit of trouble understanding what was going on at first but I think I caught on. I think. It's one of those movies where, when it's over, you're not sure if you got it all or not. There could be much more to it, but maybe I got everything there is to get. Who knows.

I liked the whole "three stories intertwining" thing it had going on; it was a lot like Pulp Fiction, my favorite flick. The problem is, it seemed as though a lot of it was ripped directly from Pulp Fiction, namely the whole boxing thing. There was a lot of Fight Club influence on the movie as well. So in that respect, the movie seemed unoriginal and a lot of times I caught myself saying "I've seen this before... in a different film." But other than that, no complaints. I'd probably recommend it. People seem to like these sort of movies (see: The Usual Suspects).

Update: I just read some "plot outlines" on the movie and turns out I did get it. Go figure.
