OVERVIEW OF ADOLESCENT AND YOUNG ADULT HEALTH RISK
STUDY (AYAHRS)
The chart below provides an overview of the study design.
All together, five waves (or rounds) of data collection have been funded.
Currently we are in the process of completing a third wave of interviews
with all participants, and have begun interviewing a subset of respondents
a fourth time.

The study began with a random sample of 2500 eligible adolescents;
2,052 of these (81%) were interviewed at Time 1. A sub-study of 818
primary care givers was also done. |

The second wave of the study collected data on 1,815 (88%) of the
original participants. A sub-study of 300 participants and their partners
was also conducted. |

Participants who were 27 years old or younger at Wave
3 were selected to participate in the final two waves of interviews.
The fourth wave of the study began in early 2001. These data will
be collected by telephone from the University of Missouri. |
