Call for Submissions

Communication Studies is a forum for communication scholarship and publishes articles on communication theory and research. All methods of scholarly inquiry into communication are welcome. Manuscripts should be conceptually meaningful, methodologically sound, interesting, clearly written, and thoughtfully argued. Manuscripts must not have been published elsewhere or be currently under consideration for any other publication. Manuscripts are processed by blind review so author identification must be removed from the manuscript (including the file of the manuscript). Include a cover letter with author contact information, the title of the manuscript, and the name of the computer file of the manuscript.

Ordinarily (unless a compelling argument is made), data- or text-based manuscripts must follow specific guidelines depending upon method. Quantitative manuscripts should report reliability estimates for dependent variables, the amount of variance accounted for in significance tests, and power when a result is not significant. When measures of central tendency are reported, appropriate measures of variability should be included. Quantitative content analysis should report inter-coder reliability using a statistic that controls for agreement by chance. Survey research should describe the population, sampling procedures, and response rate. Qualitative research should articulate the standards employed to assure the quality and verification of the interpretation presented (e.g., member-checking, negative case analysis).

Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the 5th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. Submissions should contain fewer than 7500 words total (including tables, references, endnotes, and appendices). Manuscripts that do not conform to the submission guidelines or are otherwise unsuitable for review will not be returned to the author(s). One printed copy and one disk copy in WordPerfect or Word (the latter must be compatible with Word 2003) should be submitted to:
