APTA Section on Geriatrics: Listserv

The APTA Section on Geriatrics has 5,000 members.
The Section on Geriatrics listserv has 1,500 participants.

Physical therapists treating elderly patients use this listserv to help each other problem solve challenging clinical questions they come across in daily practice. Valuable information can be gleaned, depending on the topic being discussed at the time. This open discussion format is hosted on Yahoo Groups. Fortunately, the APTA Section on Geriatrics generously allows non-members to join this listserv!

Assignment: Part 1

Listserv Assignment: Part 2

1. Open a recent email Daily Digest that you have received.
2. Click on View All Topics. It nests all responses under the original query. Here's what it looks like.
3. Consult this list to find your assigned year and month. Browse back by clicking on: older >
4. Select a topic with at least nine follow-up messages. Those topics will have drawn the most interest and interaction. Pick one of these larger volume topics to review. Read the individual messages nested under the headline topic.

Write a paper with:

  1. The subject heading of your topic, the month & year, and the # of responses nested under it.
  2. A paragraph stating what you learned in terms of content.
  3. A paragraph with your perception of how these practicing therapists share their experience and knowledge.
    How much consensus was evident?
  4. Do you plan to remain on the listserv after the course is over?

Put a hard copy of your paper in Dr. Hargrove's mailbox (you don't need to send an email attachment).
