  • Shawn Christ, Ph.D.
  • Director
  • Shawn Christ is the Director of the Clinical Neuropsychology Laboratory. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2004 from Washington University in St. Louis with a specialization in clinical pediatric neuropsychology. He later completed a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in cognitive neuroscience at Washington University during which his training focused on the utilization of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) technology in humans and the study of the neurocognitive processes involved in deception and lying.

Dr. Christ is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri and an Adjunct Professor at the MU Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders. He also currently serves as the Director of the MU Brain Imaging Center.

  • Jennifer Sokoloff
  • Graduate Student
  • Jennifer received her BA in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After obtaining her undergraduate degree she worked at the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at Children’s National in Washington, DC where she was involved with a variety of neuropsychological, neuroimaging, and intervention-based research on executive function in school-aged children diagnosed with high-functioning autism spectrum disorders. Jennifer joined the Clinical Neuropsychology Lab in 2012. Her current research focuses on neuroimaging techniques such as structural MRI and Diffusion Tensor Imaging to help elucidate the underlying neural basis of autism symptomatology.

  • Katherine Bellesheim
  • Katherine Bellesheim
  • Graduate Student
  • Katie Bellesheim completed her undergraduate work at St. John’s University in Jamaica, NY. Before joining the Clinical Neuropsychology Lab in 2013, she worked with Dr. Teresa Tavassoli at the Seaver Autism Center investigating sensory reactivity, especially tactile hyperreactivity, in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Katie continues her interest in working with children with neurodevelopmental disorders with Dr. Shawn Christ. Recent graduate research projects involved studying treatment-related changes in brain function in children with ASD and phenylketonuria. Her current research investigates working memory and other executive functions in individuals with ASD.

  • Kelly Boland
  • Graduate Student
  • Kelly received her B.A. in Neuroscience from Kenyon College in Gambier, OH. During her undergraduate training, Kelly was a member of Dr. Tabitha Payne's Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory, examining physical and mental health influences on reaction time and cognition. After graduation, Kelly worked in Dr. Rebecca Treiman's Reading and Language Laboratory at Washington University in St. Louis investigating the development of language in young children. Kelly joined the Clinical Neuropsychology Lab in the fall of 2016. Her graduate research focuses on young people with developmental disabilities and the interplay between comorbid mental health conditions (e.g., anxiety) and cognitive abilities in this population. She is also a member of Dr. Jason Craggs's Brainstorm Laboratory at the University of Missouri, conducting neuroimaging and behavioral research on the experience of physical and emotional pain in chronic pain conditions.

  • Hayley is a first year graduate student in the Clinical Neuropsychology Lab. She received her B.A. in cognitive neuroscience with minors in linguistics and anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis. Her research interests broadly include using imaging techniques to investigate developmental and cognitive processes.
