The following endowments support the Department of Communication. Contributions to any of these endowments help maintain the quality of program in an era of declining state financial contributions to the university.
Alumni Opportunities for Excellence in Undergraduate Education Endowment
Alumni Opportunities for Excellence in Undergraduate Education Endowment was recently established so that Alumni could assist in supporting the undergraduate program of the Department of Communication. This endowed fund provides support for the instructional needs of students and faculty. The funding assists with equipment purchases, instructional supplies, student support, and faculty development. Overall this fund helps improve the quality of the undergraduate program.
The Faculty-Alumni Graduate Student Support Fund
The Faculty-Alumni Graduate Student Support Fund was established by the faculty and alumni to assist graduate students. The purpose of this endowed fund is to provide additional support for recruiting and training graduate students. By helping support graduate students, the money from the fund will improve the quality of our program.
The Loren Reid Opportunities for Excellence Fund
The Loren Reid Opportunities for Excellence Fund was established in recognition and in honor of Loren Reid's outstanding contributions to the University of Missouri-Columbia and the Department of Columbia by alumni and friends. The fund is used to promote professional growth and stimulate opportunities for teaching, research and service. This fund enriches the life of the campus through the people who contribute to it and those who benefit from it.
The Philip J. Lombardo Communication Executive in Residence Endowment
The Philip J. Lombardo Communication Executive in Residence Endowment provides support for an Executive in Residence who will bring the "real world" to campus by actively interacting with students. These executives share their expertise and wisdom with students, and give advice about career preparation and advancement in communication professions. In the first year, Mr. Lombardo, CEO of Citadel Communications Company, Ltd., agreed to be the first Communication Executive in Residence and brought three other members of his management team to join him. Mr. Ty Christian was selected as the second Lombardo Communication Executive in Residence. He was the Managing Partner of YP&B Christian, a full-service advertising/communications agency with offices in Orlando and St. Louis. Dennis Barnes was the third recipient. He founded Marketing Direct, Inc.
