RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS

Currently developing, planning, testing, and evaluating an online social computing platform for scholarly collaboration.

Conducted research to evaluate search and browse behavior and analyze and classify search terms used on the Pictures of the Year International Archive Web site. Journal article in review.

Used the Omeka open source content management system and the Dublin Core Metadata element set to build and describe a digital library of approximately 40,000 photojournalism images. Wrote several programs involving a variety of computer scripting languages and the MySQL database application to facilitate the metadata description process. Used CSS and PHP to design the theme of the Archive from scratch but thematically based on the main Pictures of the Year International Web site.

Assisted with a two-part research and evaluation of the Missouri Department of Transportation Web site. Researched and outlined government best practices and usability standards, evaluated and then provided an in-depth analysis of the Web site's implementation of these guidelines with a comparison to other state department of transportation Web sites. Designed and conducted usability tests, analyzed test results, and provided the Missouri Department of Transportation with a 221-page summary with suggestions for future development.
