- English 2010: Intermediate Composition, Spring 2008, Fall 2009
One section (15 students) for first-year- through senior-level students. Course subtitle was “The Rhetoric of Terrorism.” Texts included declassified Al-Qaeda manuals, Bush administration documents, and just war doctrine. In addition to traditional writing assignments, students participated in group-based competitive practicums and a series of new media assignments. - English 1210: Introduction to British Literature, Fall 2007
One section (27 students) of the general curriculum introductory course in British literature. The course emphasized intertextual relationships across literature along thematic lines. Major focuses included Arthurian legend, Shakespeare’s shadow, interpretations of evil, British identity, love in literature, and reactions to death. Texts ranged from Marie de France to Harry Potter. Students composed four papers, two major tests, and daily short quizzes and writing assignments. - English 1000: Exposition and Argumentation, 2006-2007
Three sections (20 students each) of the introductory course for the University of Missouri writing requirement. Designed all course syllabi and assignments. Courses emphasized classical rhetoric, cross-disciplinary writing, public speaking, media studies, and linguistics. Major texts included Delillo’s White Noise, Boyle’s Tortilla Curtain, Glassner’s Culture of Fear, declassified Al-Qaeda texts, and short story and writing-across-the-disciplines packets.
