                                                                                              700 Total Points Possible

There will be 10 quizzes and four exams.  No makeup exams or quizzes will be given!  Only the three exams taken or the three highest scores will be counted.  The lowest quiz score will not be counted.  A late take home quiz loses 10% of its value every working day it is late.  All exams and quizzes are comprehensive.  Many questions will be short answer but there will be a variety of question formats.

There is no extra credit!

Exams

Exams usually consist of true/false questions; either multiple choice or matching; short answer responses; and long answer responses.  Matching will not be definitions, but clues to your understanding.  Short responses consist of a situation which requires a short response to it, a sentence or less.  Long answers involve graphical summaries or multi-part questions.  Exam questions often come from discussion of current events, economics has applications for everyone.

Suggestions for Success

Do not just unload information; answer the question specifically. Being verbose can only hurt your score.  Extraneous information implies you do not fully understand the concept.  We intend to grade as if we were an employer or manager looking at the effectiveness or usefulness of your response.  Employers do not want fluff or contradictory responses.  We don’t either.  We want clear, concise responses based on economic analysis.  This indicates you understand and that is why we are here.

Excuse Policy

You may send an email or provide a written reason for missing class.  These will be checked for dealing with unexpected circumstances, such as multiple misses for being ill or for professional reasons.  At the end of the semester, these excuses will be checked with your scores and if reasons are valid an average of in-class quiz scores will be used to replace missed quizzes up to a maximum of two.  One in-class quiz will be dropped before any grades are replaced.  There is no need to miss a take home quiz.  So, this replacement will not be done for take-homes.  The same policy applies to exams.

Re-grade Policy

Re-grades will be allowed for two weeks after the day the quiz or exam was returned to you.  Any request beyond two weeks will not be considered.  Identify the questions you want reviewed and list them on the top of the quiz or exam and give it to the instructor.  Do not put re-grades with things that are being returned.  Do not write a rationale for the original answer – just write “Please check #...”

Grades breaks are as follows:

86% and up = A

74 – 85% = B

60 – 73% = C

51 - 59% = D

50% or below = F

+/- grades given between listed grades.  There will be no rounding.
