700 Total Possible

There will be no make-up exams or quizzes

The lowest exam score is not included in total points.  Three of the four exams will be counted.  The lowest quiz score will be dropped as well.  A late take home exercise loses 10% of its value every day it is late.  All exams and quizzes are comprehensive.  Most questions will be short answer.  There will also be true/false and other question formats. Do not just unload information; answer the question specifically. Being verbose can only hurt your score.  Extraneous information implies that you do not fully understand the issue or concept.  We intend to grade as if we were an employer or manager looking at the effectiveness or usefulness of your response.

Grades breaks will be determined towards the end of the semester using natural breaks in the distribution.  The following are guaranteed grades.

>90% = A

>80% = B

>70% = C

>60% = D

<50% = F

Within these ranges, grade breaks are likely to be about 84 – 88% for an A, 73 – 77% for a B,   59 – 62% for a C, and 53 – 56% for a D.

Excuse Policy

There will be 10 quizzes and four exams given.  There will be no make-up exams or quizzes.  You may send an email or provide a written reason for missing class.  These will be checked for dealing with unexpected circumstances, such as multiple misses for being ill or for professional reasons.  At the end of the semester, these excuses will be checked with your scores and if reasons are valid an average of in-class quiz scores will be used to replace missed quizzes up to a maximum of two.  One quiz will be dropped before any grades are replaced.  There are only four in-class quizzes.  There is no need to miss a take home quiz.  So, this replacement will not be done for take-homes.

Re-grade Policy

Re-grades will be allowed for two weeks after the day the quiz or exam was returned to you.  Any request beyond two weeks or after our last scheduled class will not be considered.  Identify the questions you want reviewed on the top of the quiz or exam and give it to the instructor.  Do not put re-grades with things that are being returned.  Do not write a rationale for the original answer – just write “Please check #...”

There are no other ways to earn points.  There is no possibility of extra credit work
