Professor Jan L. Dauve

Raised just outside of St. Louis, I live in the country south of Columbia with my wife, Terri, who is from suburban Chicago.  We enjoy wildlife and any type of nature activities.  Our house is in a perfect setting tucked in the trees with lots of  wildlife surrounding us.  Although we do not have any children, we do have a yellow labrador retriever named Risa.  Risa joined us late in 1996 and is a full fledged member of the family. We enjoy hiking and walking near our house in southern Boone county, where the deer and squirrels are thick, as well as ticks. I really enjoy fishing and go at every opportunity.  Other activities that I enjoy are basketball and other competitive games.  There is usually music on the stereo whether it is in the car or at home.  Although I do own more Neil Young than any other artist, I do enjoy listening to all types of music.  (I am listening to Bela Fleck & the Flecktones while I edit this page).

While working on my graduate studies, I lived in Colorado for five years.  While there I had great times skiing and hiking.  Although  Colorado has some beautiful scenery, it never became home.  Although I did enjoy my time in Colorado, Missouri is my home.  I like the atmosphere better here and the variety of scenery and ecosystems.  Hope your experience in Missouri is just as good!!

As I have gotten older, I have learned to enjoy new things.  Now I look forward to traveling and eating new foods. The most exotic place I have been is Costa Rica, located in Central America. This was a great experience and only made me wish that I would have traveled more and been more open to new things when I was younger.  You should check out opportunities to study abroad.  EAARTH, in Costa Rica, is an outstanding College dedicated to economic and ecological agriculture.  These types of experiences would have been more fun and would have prepared me better for life.  Below I have listed some of my favorite links that you might what to check out.

For those students taking Agricultural Economics 1041 & 1042 please feel free to ask questions during class or come speak with me if you need help.  I enjoy in class questions and hope you enjoy the discussions.
