North Campus Winter poster

In the winter of 2007, I created a 39x18" poster of one of the most popular images from A Portrait of Grinnell: "North Campus Winter." A "stitched" panorama composed of seven horizontal photographs made at dusk on a cold December evening in 2005.

The poster, seen at left, is simply entitled "North Campus Winter" with "Grinnell College" written in red type underneath.

The poster was printed in two editions: one on standard poster stock, and a limited-edition (200 total) printed on cover-weight paper that is signed and editioned in the lower right-hand corner.

The standard poster is available at the Grinnell College bookstore, and both the standard and limited editions are sold at Saints Rest Coffee House.

Both stores will accept orders by phone. Please see the sidebar for contact information for both stores.

cover of Louis Sullivans Merchants National Bank

Written by Bill Menner and released in the Spring of 2007, my second photographic project, about the Merchants National Bank, a 'jewel-box' bank by architect Louis Sullivan, was released by Pomegranate Communications.

Frank Lloyd Wright served as an apprentice to Louis Sullivan for several years, but was later fired for "moonlighting," designing houses under his own name on the side.

Sullivan's work, sprinkled throughout the midwest but concentrated in Chicago, clearly influenced Wright, who became a household name.

Louis Sullivan's Merchants National Bank is available for purchase (and eligible for free shipping) at Amazon.com. Please purchase the book through this link as I will receive a small percentage of the sale.

Also, visit the "Architecture" section to see some of my photos of the bank that are in the book.

Cover of A Portrait of Grinnell

As of January 2009, A Portrait of Grinnell is officially sold-out. Please feel free to e-mail me and I will make sure to notify you when the book has been reprinted and is once again available for sale.

For four years I walked across the campus of Grinnell College as both a student of history and a photographer. I approached campus from my background as a nature photographer and combined with that experience my interest in architectural photography.

I graduated in May 2006 and nearly simultaneously released my first book: A Portrait of Grinnell: The Architecture and Landscape of Grinnell College.

David G. Campbell, professor of biology at Grinnell College and author of several books, notably The Crystal Desert: Summers in Antarctica as well as A Land of Ghosts: The Braided Lives of People and the Forest in Far Western Amazonia graciously wrote the foreword.

Finally, please visit the "Architecture" section to see some of my photos of Grinnell that are in the book.
