The main achievements of FACSS during 1999-2000
1. The 1999 national day celebration:
A social gathering was organized at Twin Lake Park. Under the national
flags we sung anthem and other songs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of
the People's Republic of China.
Some of our members presented various performances on the celebration, a
lot of joy, a lot of fun.
2. Our volleyball team "Columbia Tigers" won the champion of the Asian
volleyball tournament of great Saint Louis area. (Group B)
The volleyball club insisted practice every Sunday afternoon for over 3
years. More and more people joined the games.
Our team won the champion out of 10 teams in this group.
3. Taking part in the international fashion shows:
Our fashion team gave a wonderful display of the Chinese traditional
costumes and the beauties of Chinese people. They won the most cheers on the
international fashion shows organized by ISO.
4. The new year celebration series activities:
The badminton and table tennis tournaments: Players took part in the Men's
single, Men's doubles, Women's single, Women's double and mixed doubles
games. These activities greatly promoted the routine exercises in our
community.
KaraOK competition: KaraOK is a kind of popular entertainment in Chinese.
The singer gave us the enjoyment of the Chinese pop music. The audiences
evaluated the winners.
New year's celebration party: Many friends from other countries were
invited to the party. It was full of a lot of performances and games. The
winners of the above competitions were awarded on the party.
A Chinese movie show was organized. It was opened to the whole campus.
5. The Chinese new year celebration series activities:
The CCTV new year's party was video taped and broadcast.
A dancing party.
A Chinese movie show.
6. Regular entertainment activities:
We organized one entertainment activity every month, include dancing
party, KaraOK party or Chinese movie show.
7. The homepage of FACSS was re-designed.
The information from various
sources were greatly enriched and regularly updated.
8. The directory of Chinese people at Columbia was compiled.
This directory facilitated the communication in the Chinese community.
We got part of funding from the advertisement on the directory.
9. New students and scholars welcome series activities:
We replied hundreds of emails to the new comers and gave them useful
information.
We picked up some of the new comers from the airport.
A new comer welcome party gave them home like feeling. They spent their
first moon festival with the Chinese friend here in Columbia.
10. The community service awards were granted.
To praise the service work and to encourage more people taking part in the
FACSS activities, We gave 7 people the community service awards.
Here we briefly summarize the major work organized by our committee during
our term. We are so happy to recall the wonderful times you shared with us.
At this moment we would like to thank the whole Chinese community. Without
your warmhearted support, we could do nothing. We definitely believe that
our community will be better and better.
