5. Your overall rating of the course (circle letter grade). A B C D E
6. My approximate GPA prior to the current semester was ____.

Student #1
1. Some of the main points you make should be repeated as you're speaking so we can write notes on what is important. You obviously know what you're talking about but maybe more hands on learning would be nice (like draw on the board more often)
2. Great job definitely for Chemistry
3. Good flow to the course wish there were more drawing because visually seeing it drawn helps to practice later
4. Good
5. A
6. 3.5

Student #2
1. I really enjoyed organic chem however sometimes thought the explanations were confusing. Pete was very helpful. Truly wanted us all to do well, but there could have been more done and more opportunities to do well
2. Very enthusiastic and passionate about chem sometimes has to relate to understand
3. Wish there were more opportunities for points besides exams
4. Similar to other chem besides other opportunities for points

3. Loved the Practice Exams and the TA was very helpful
4. I have done much better in this chem class than previous Gen Ed ones
5. B
6. 3.56

Student #5
1. He was that, a lecturer, not a teacher. He talked to us and even wasted many lectures talking about stuff that wasn't even on the test. He did NOT teach us or help us learn at all
2. One of my worst
3. The course is very difficult. Combining 2 semesters into 1 is not effectively possible
4. Not my favorite

3. Lectures that don't deviate from info that will be on exams
4. This was not my favorite
5. C
6. 3.8

3. Strong- a lot of information was learned
Weak-the tests are so close together
4. About the same
5. B
6. 3.78

Student #17
1. I don't think the message always gets conveyed really well (probably due to tegrity lack though)

5. B
6. 3.8

Student #20
1. It is very hard to concentrate at 8am with very dry material and no enthusiasm
2. Average compared to other chem courses
3. Needs more points than just tests. Pete was a big help but it isn't fair that previous years had hw and take home test (that were easier than our in class tests)

1.
2.
3. Too much information too quickly. Too much to memorize
4.
5. B
6. 3.2

Student #27
1. Very organized method of teaching, however I wish we had more opportunity for practice and additional points, not just exams. It was more fast paced than what I'm used to
2. Fast paced, kind of expects to know a lot beforehand. Teaches at a quicker pace sometimes hard to keep up
3. It's just a lot to take in at once. Difficult, but not impossible just time consuming
4.
5. C
6. 2.6

Student #28
1. Strong: very enthusiastic about the class and material. Weak: lecture does not address test material at all

3. Strong: the TA is amazing! We'd all be closer to failing w/o him
4. It is much harder!
5. B
6. 3.94

Student #29
1. Obvious that you know material very well but presented in a way that was often hard to follow would have liked to see things written out but you rather than pointed at on powerpoint
2. More knowledge but often more difficult to follow
3. The tests were very hard. Had all the influence on grade maybe homework to help grade
4. Okay; not best nor worst
5. C
6. 3.8

Student #30
1. Dr. Glaser was always here on time and prepared to lecture the whole time, however his lectures were extremely dry and hard to follow. His powerpoint presentations were not helpful and often material covered in class was not covered on exams.
2. He was not as good as other lecturers I have has at the university or in the chemistry/biology departments
3. Grading scale and fairness of material on exams also, clarify test material
4. This is one of the worst courses I have taken at the university. I did not feel dr glaser was interested in student learning and that he found our failing test averages to be both acceptable and our fault
5. D
6. 3.8

Student #31
1. Strong: enthusiasm. Weak: lectures presented as more of a bundle of information rather than teaching us what is actually going on
2. The chemistry department seems to have an inability to teach most students, this class was no different
3. Strong: amazing teaching assistant the only reason I understand the class
4. This was definitely not one of my favorites
5. C
6. 3.7

Student #32

1. All talking and no written examples a worked out problems in class. Yet our whole test was written problems
2. Pretty poor it is not interactive. Especially compared to other chem classes I've taken.
3. Strong- the TA Pete is awesome and very hepful. Weak- a lot of the questions on the tests would be easier if we worked out problems in class
4. Not as helpful
5. D
6. 3.8

Student #36
1. Wish we spent more time doing actual problems that would have shown up on the test
2. Lecturer was usually boring and couldn't keep my attention
3. Bring take-home test back
4. Best chemistry class I've taken
5. B
6. 3.2

Student #37
1. Average of class test shoudn't be a 50%. Talk slower. Make test based on material we learn in class. More time allotted for tests, no one can finish has enough time to think. Extra credit somehow
2. Hard. High expectations. Doesn't care that averages are really low
3.
4.
5. D
6. 3.86

Student #38
1. He makes sure to hit all the major points, but I think sometimes goes on too long about information that is not so important. It would be nice also to have more examples of problems in class
2. He has been a little harder than some of my other science teachers
3. The tests I felt were harder then what we prepared so, at least the last half of them Past exams did not seem to be as hard which was misleading
4. It is a good course but harder than most
5. B
6. 3.5

Student #39
1. Strong knowledge about topic. Weak lectured before exams, students not prepared. Curve each exam, not wait until end of course. More online component
2. Poor lecturer compared to other science courses. Did not ever work out practice problems to prep for exams, only went through slides
3. Strong covered a lot of material, TA help was fantastic! Weak: needs to correspond better with 2130 (lab)
4. Gen chem, organic chem lab, calculus
5. D
6. 3.86

Student #40
1. Strong- enthusiastic for subject matter, knowledgeable in subject matter. Weak- hard to follow lectures, only did full problems after times in lecture at reviews, poorly introduced new terms
2. Poor at bring subject down and working back up. Did not provided nearly enough step by step instruction
3. Disorganized, Unclear, Next time, know what's going on.
4. Poor
5. D
6. 3.5

Student #41
1. Strong part is the knowledge of the class and is able to teach it. But the weakness is being able to get it through to students's mind. Have a hard time understanding what he says
2. He is one of the better nicer professors
3. Good
4.
5. C
6.

Student #42
1. The lectuer did not know how to convey information to beginning students who are just learning the material. Did not use time effectively because. Do not teach things we don't need to know
2. I have had poor chemistry professors since my college career and I am disappointed with the education in the chem department. In addition, I learned all material from the TA or taught myself
3. Do not lecture before exams. Allow the house 15 minutes so we don't feel rushed
4. Disappointed I have learned more and understand more in other classes
5. C
6. 3.2

Student #43
1. The tutoring classes are very helpful. Teacher needs to show more examples. Can get confusing the way he explains it. Sometimes fast.
2. Uses power point like a lot of the instructors
3. Liked the grading scale. Needed more examples of what the teacher wants us to learn
4. Somewhat similar
5. B
6.

Student #44
1. Course was strategic and taught efficiently. More hands on work would help like working out reactions on board
2. Was very knowledgeable and taught at a faster pase than most
3. Course had very useful and practical information. Need more practice with reactions
4. It was a good course and very useful
5. A
6. 3.5

Student #45
1. Lectures need to be better clarified. The average on several tests were around 49%. The instructor kind of put blame on students saying we weren't studying enough. Well there were several students myself included that studied really all the time. If the class average has been around 49% for several tests then maybe the instructor needs to re-evaluate his teaching and lectures.
2.
3.
4.
5. D
6.

Student #46
1. Strong- Dr. Glaser is very knowledgeable is Organic Chemistry. Weak- He cannot communicate his knowledge in a way that is easy to understand
2. Dr. Glaser only teaches the minimum but tests over the maximum. His lecture slides are directly from the book and do no expand any further. Other science professors know that they need alternative explanations other than the book.
3. No strong. Class as a whole is very weak. We are expected to know information beyond the 2030 level.
4. Hardest/worst class I have taken. Information required to memorize was not realistic
5. E
6. 2.8

Student #47
1. Strong- good explanation of information presented on slides. Weak- information sometimes feel a little rushed
2. Very interested in subject. Well organized and clearly presented material
3. Strong- feel like it prepared me for biochemistry
4. Very pleased, more so than previous chemistry classes
5. A
6. 3.7

Student #48
1. Strong- very friendly showed interest in what you were teaching. Weak- could have tried to explain concepts better. Explain the material in a way that is easier to understand
2. Average to above average
3. Improve: I always ran out of time on the exams. Very frustrating b/c I studied the material and knew it but didn't have time to show that. Shorten tests in the future or give longer time. Improve- offer other points besides just exam, ex-homework
4. Hardest course I've taken at my 4 years at Mizzou
5. C
6. 3.7

Student #49
1. Enthusiastic, Moves too fast
2.
3. Broad range. Too in depth
4. ?
5. C/D
6.

Student #50
1. Strong- instructor is very knowledgeable of subject matter. Weak-moves too fast, doesn't fully explain, arrogant, blames the students for his own failure, not helpful at all, very high expectations from students, ineffective teaching
2. Others=B Glaser=D
3. Too much infomation piled into one course; very hard to learn all
4. This course=C Others=B+/A-
5. C
6. 3.25

Student #51
1. Strong: enthusiastic. Weak: does not explain things; doesn't teach; when asked to explain further, explained the same way as before only like we were stupid; confusing; distracting (playing with pants and hair) figure out different ways to explain things, don't act like we are stupid for not already knowing it, teach better give homework
2. Only one other can compare to how little I have learned from him
3. Strong: has TA lessons (this is how I succeeded) Weak: moved fairly quickly and jumped around (bad order of chapters)
4. Organic is better than gen chem but the chem department here is very disappointing
5. B
6. 3.2

Student #52
1. Strong: enthusiastic. Weak: he is hard to understand, explanations only further confused me, didn't teach well, put things on test that were exceptionally more complicated than what we learned in class. Easily distracted while teaching. Suggestions: give homework
2. He was the worst science teacher I have had so far
3. Strong: taught lots of info. Weak: hard info to be taught so quickly. Suggestions: give homework
4. Overall, not a bad science course
5. C
6. ~3.3

Student #53
1. Great enthusiasm for subject matter. Maybe try doing more on blackboard or giving problems in class so that students can physically see what you're thinking (not just hear it)
2. Very enthusiastic and interested in student learning; enjoyable compared to some other professors I've had
3. Lots of good resources for extra help. Lots of material
4. Difficult
5. C
6. 3.2

Student #54
1. Doesn't teach is what is actually important for the test. Goes over stuff in detail; stuff that won't be on the tests, compared to stuff we need to know. He skims and doesn't teach. I suggest a new teacher. I will only pass this class because the TA: Pete taught me all I know
2. He is awful. Taught me nothing. The TA is fabulous and should be the one teaching the class
3. The tests are nothing like what we learn in class. Asks us questions we've never seen before and expects us to pass the test. [Questions were all taken from the posted practice tests with minor changes!!]
4. Poor
5. E
6. 3.5

Student #55
1. Great teacher, helpful outside of class. Very nice. Tests are more difficult than lectured material. I would like homework assignments
2.
3. Homework
4.
5. B
6. 3.5

Student #56
1. Doesn't teach. Reads through powerpoints. Doesn't show how he ultimately ends up at an answer. I learned NOTHING (not kidding) from his lectures
2. Pete- our TA is the ONLY reason I knew anything in this class. I went to his sessions every M&W this semester in order to learn the material for the exams
3. Went really fast. Lots of material in the short amount of time
4. Way harder
5. E
6. 3.6

Student #57
1. Dr. Glaser has an abundance of knowledge about chemistry however it is difficult for students to understand what he is actually talking about, perhaps working through more sample questions in class would be beneficial instead of just continuous powerpoint lectures. He is very passionate and cares about the material, though which is a good things
2. Dr. Glaser is the only chem teacher I've had that has taught me completely new material about chemistry. All the other chem classes I've had here were vaguely similar to those I took in high school. So in this way perhaps that is why I have difficulty understanding some of the concepts because they were completely new. He is just as available and ready to help as other teachers I've had
3. We were introduced to a lot of new topics in this course, however perhaps the range was a bit too broad. I feel like I only know the superficial layer to a lot of subjects and not a deep understanding
4. It required the most work I've ever put into a class
5. B
6. 4.0

Student #58
1. Strong: back round [sic] knowledge
2.
3. Just hard concepts. Amazing TA
4. Hard
5. B
6. 3.35

Student #59
1. Too much material in one semester, not thorough w/ mechanisms
2. Better than chem 2
3. A lot to learn
4.
5. B
6. 3.0

Student #60
1. It'd be much easier to pay attention if the class didn't go so fast, I feel like the class moves too fast and doesn't give enough time to fully grasp a concept before moving on to something new
2. This was pretty similar in the effectiveness of the lecture and how things were explained
3. This is a pretty difficult course to understand. I think moving a little slower until a subject is mastered comfortably would help with understanding
4. Hard to keep me motivated in learning the material
5. C
6. 3.0

Student #61
1. More examples will help
2.
3.
4. Tutoring class is very helpful
5. C
6. 3.0

Student #62
1. Knows A LOT!
2. Very good
3.
4.
5. A
6. 3.75

Student #63
1. Lecture did not provide examples working out examples
2. Better because of TA weekly sessions
3. Continue TA weekly sessions most helpful
4. Fine
5. B
6.

Student #64
1. Maybe making the material more relevant to us! Easier language with new material
2. Different as far as extra help offered. GOOD!
3. N/A
4. Much more difficult
5. A
6. 2.63

Student #65
1.
2.
3.
4.
5. D
6. 2.6

Student #66
1. Just a personal preference, but the best parts of class explained the impact the subject has on daily life; it made reading about soup borderline interesting. When you do that you do it well so do it more
2. Heads above all others in approachability
3. Lack of assessment, consider some kind of online homework
4. B
5. B
6. 2.8-ish
