 (1) Topic Selection: 19 Points (0-20)
This topic has a strong relationship to organic chemistry and is appealing to a broad audience.  Very nice to see something not related to the health field.

        (2) Newspaper and Article Selection: 8 Points (0-10)
The article was informative and the author seemed quite knowledgable in science.  Again a strong connection to organic.

        (3) Quality of the Editorial Comments: 9 Points (0-10)
Wonderfully written.  Enjoyable to read...enough said.

        (4) Organic Chemistry Content: 10 Points (0-10)
Your reference section is very precise.  The editorial and article are strongly related to organic and one another.

        (5) Selection and Quality of the Links: 18 Points (0-20)
                        Great links...loved the cartoon.

        (6) Format, Number and Types of Questions: 9 Points (0-10)
Nice set of questions.  Very reasonable.

        (7) Quality of the Questions: 9 Points (0-10)
Again well thought out questions.  Very reasonable, but still challenging enough to be used in a classroom situation.

        (8) Overall Impression. 9 Points (0-10)
Very impressive CSP.  Could definately be published with very minor adjustments.

  (1) Topic Selection: 19 Points (0-20)
                        Interesting topic.

        (2) Newspaper and Article Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
Scientific American is a very good source.

        (3) Quality of the Editorial Comments: 10 Points (0-10)
Very well organized and gramatically correct.

        (4) Organic Chemistry Content: 9 Points (0-10)
It's just a theory right now.

        (5) Selection and Quality of the Links: 18 Points (0-20)
Some links didn't relate to the article very well.

        (6) Format, Number and Types of Questions: 9 Points (0-10)
                        One question was elementary.

        (7) Quality of the Questions: 8 Points (0-10)
Not a great deal of variation.

        (8) Overall Impression. 9 Points (0-10)
overall good editorial and article, but need to stay away from theory

Evaluation by Group 35

 (1) Topic Selection: 18 Points (0-20)
Ok topic, not great. Though it does relate to organic chemistry, it does not teach much about it to the reader, not pertinent to many people

        (2) Newspaper and Article Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
Good quality magazine, good author. A little dry, but ok.

        (3) Quality of the Editorial Comments: 9 Points (0-10)
The comments were way too long and there were quite a few errors in grammer and the like.

        (4) Organic Chemistry Content: 9 Points (0-10)
The organic chemitry part of it wasnt stressed as much as other things, such as it being part of us knowing our origin and stuff, the chemistry of it wasnt stressed.

        (5) Selection and Quality of the Links: 20 Points (0-20)
Good links, good number of links, well chosen.

        (6) Format, Number and Types of Questions: 9 Points (0-10)
Right number of questions, but they didnt vary much in type and they didnt focus much on the actual chemistry of what was going on.

        (7) Quality of the Questions: 9 Points (0-10)
Good job overall, they were understandable, but didnt focus enough on the chemistry issue involved.

        (8) Overall Impression. 9 Points (0-10)
It was a job well done, some changes could be made to the questions and comments, but nothing major.

Evaluation by Group 36

        (1) Topic Selection: 20 Points (0-20)
I was very impressed with this topic.  Questions about life other than on our planet have been asked since the beginning of time.  Life and stars are both organisms very related to organic chemistry.  On a personal note, orion is by far my most favorite constellation.

        (2) Newspaper and Article Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
The article used was very good and straight to the point without a lot of useless garble.

        (3) Quality of the Editorial Comments: 10 Points (0-10)
The editorial comments are good in tying in the article to how it relates to our studies in organic chemistry.  It was well organized and grammatically correct.

        (4) Organic Chemistry Content: 9 Points (0-10)
Key organic issues were made clear with sufficient background covered in our text.

        (5) Selection and Quality of the Links: 18 Points (0-20)
The links used are exactly that.  They link together the information from the article to the editorial comments and the question.

        (6) Format, Number and Types of Questions: 8 Points (0-10)
It contains all five questions.  Some aren't as relative to the article as maybe it could be.

        (7) Quality of the Questions: 8 Points (0-10)
This comment is about the same as the last was.  Overall the questions are good but 1 or 2 isn't as relative as maybe it could be.

        (8) Overall Impression. 10 Points (0-10)
I would consider it for publication because it is a topic that peeks the interest of many Earthling's, which is very evident by the many movies about other life in the universe.

I feel that the group did a very good job and it was evident that a lot of thought and preperation went into this project.

Evaluation by Group 37

 (1) Topic Selection: 19 Points (0-20)
The article was interesting but not for a very broad audience. The topic did have a great significance ot organic chemistry.

        (2) Newspaper and Article Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
It seemed to come from a high quality source. The article was pulished on Oct 98 which is with in the time limit. They were definately qualified to write on the topic. The article was of good length. The article was able to retain my interest for the most part.

        (3) Quality of the Editorial Comments: 8 Points (0-10)
The editorial was a little too long. It was well written though. It seemed to want to say a little too much of too many topics it should have been a narrower topic surrounding the article.

        (4) Organic Chemistry Content: 10 Points (0-10)
The chemical issue was made quite clear but could have been a bit more focused. Background was fine we just didn't understand why they wrote in the editorial what the links were there to do. Sources were great and in abundance.

        (5) Selection and Quality of the Links: 20 Points (0-20)
The links were all really great. The group should have retained confidence in and not totally repeat what they had to say in the editorial though. I learned quite a bit with the help of the links.

        (6) Format, Number and Types of Questions: 10 Points (0-10)
5 were there all in realation to chenistry. There was a PSP question. Questions covered different aspects of the topic well.

        (7) Quality of the Questions: 9 Points (0-10)
All of them were pretty good. The second question seemed to be thrown in there though.

        (8) Overall Impression. 10 Points (0-10)
I was really inpressed with the links they were able to find on the topic. I think the only improvement would have to be about the length of the editorial comments.
