Evaluation by Group 1

 (1) Topic Selection: 18 Points (0-20)
It seems borad and interesting, but it kind of seems too borad.  There is a definite relation to Organic Chemistry, though.

        (2) Newspaper and Article Selection: 9 Points (0-10)
It was very informative and up-to-date.  There were lots of good details, and it was well-organized.  There was a lot to take in.

        (3) Quality of the Editorial Comments: 10 Points (0-10)
Good summary of article.  The links are numerous and adequate.

        (4) Organic Chemistry Content: 10 Points (0-10)
Carbon dioxide was the obvious topic for Organic Chemistry, and the background on it was very thorough.

        (5) Selection and Quality of the Links: 19 Points (0-20)
The links are interesting and provide tons if useful information.

        (6) Format, Number and Types of Questions: 9 Points (0-10)
The questions were full of Organic Chemistry, and they were diverse, too.

        (7) Quality of the Questions: 9 Points (0-10)
They make you think, but they are so useful to know.

        (8) Overall Impression. 9 Points (0-10)
The information and links were thorough, but it was so technical.  It is suitable for classroom material publication.

Evaluation by Group 2

        (1) Topic Selection: 20 Points (0-20)
Environmental concerns are not "just for the future".  The future is here and we are choking on the air that we have polluted.  Everyone should be aware of the wonderful technology we have created to help fix what we have screwed up so completely.

        (2) Newspaper and Article Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
The article was a little long, but so full of information that was very relevant.

        (3) Quality of the Editorial Comments: 10 Points (0-10)
The editorial comments were a nice summary of the main idea.

        (4) Organic Chemistry Content: 10 Points (0-10)
The material was completely chemistry oriented.

        (5) Selection and Quality of the Links: 20 Points (0-20)
The links were great and informative.  They helped with the comprehension of the subject material.

        (6) Format, Number and Types of Questions: 10 Points (0-10)
The questions made us think and look a little beyond just the first part of the article.  The last one was really thought provoking.

        (7) Quality of the Questions: 10 Points (0-10)
The questions were all relvant to the subject and varied in their content.

        (8) Overall Impression. 10 Points (0-10)
The material was great, the layout was nice, the subject very useful to students (mostly because of the environmental aspect), and was of a reasonable diffuculty level.  The article would be good practice at reading scientific journals for students.

Evaluation by Group 3

        (1) Topic Selection: 20 Points (0-20)
The topic is applicable to people of today because of the increasing awareness of Global Warming and Greenhouse gases and it deals direclty with organic chemistry (carbon dioxide, methane, oxides)

        (2) Newspaper and Article Selection: 8 Points (0-10)
The article came from a reputable newspaper but, although it was good, it was a little long(-1) and it lacked the drive to spur the interests of the reader(-1).

        (3) Quality of the Editorial Comments: 10 Points (0-10)
For such a long article the editorial comments did very well to summerize it.  Also there were some good insights included that shed light on the article.

        (4) Organic Chemistry Content: 9 Points (0-10)
Good detail but it didn't necessarily match up with the pertinent reference section of the book.

        (5) Selection and Quality of the Links: 20 Points (0-20)
The links were excellent the had good explaination of some of the elements in the article that were pertinent to understanding.

        (6) Format, Number and Types of Questions: 10 Points (0-10)
It had all the types of questions.

        (7) Quality of the Questions: 10 Points (0-10)
The quality of the questions was great.  They were qustions that could be answered in a reasonable amount of time and they were very specific to the article, but general enough  to pertain to other topic of this nature as well.

        (8) Overall Impression. 9 Points (0-10)
The article was very good overall.  The main problems were the length and excitment factor.  After reading for a long time it seems to drag just a little.  Other than that everything was good.  The time and effort put in on this project were well worth it.

Evaluation by Group 4

  1. Topic Selection  19/20 pts
The topic was interesting but not original.

  2.  Newspaper and Article Selection  9/10
The article was good but too long.  You lose the reader's
interest.

  3.  Quality of the Editorial Comments  10/10
The comments were good and brought everything together.

  4.  Organic Chemistry Content  10/10
The article had good chemistry content.

  5.  Selection and Quality of Links  15/20
Your links aren't very relevant.  The Kyote Conference link is 150
pages long!  We have a hard time believing that you looked at this link
thoroughly.  Think about time constraints.

  6.  Format, Number, and Types of Questions 10/10
        You met the criteria.

  7.  Quality of the Questions  10/10
        The questions were good.

  8.  Overall Impression  8/10
You need to reevaluate the links.  Be sure to think about time
constraints.  This needs some serious editing before it would be
appropriate for an assignment.

Evaluation by Group 5

 (1) Topic Selection: 20 Points (0-20)
once again, the ozone is a very important topic to all of us, that everyone should be concerned about.  since this article discussed an alternative solution, it was very helpful

        (2) Newspaper and Article Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
up to date article with a lot of information and published in a respected environmental magazine

        (3) Quality of the Editorial Comments: 10 Points (0-10)
since the article was so long, the editorial did a good job summing up all the information quickly.  hit the main points without dragging it out

        (4) Organic Chemistry Content: 10 Points (0-10)
gave a complete background on the greenhouse effect, carbon dioxide, the greenhouse effect, and potential ways to solve it's problems

        (5) Selection and Quality of the Links: 20 Points (0-20)
the links were very pertinent to the article.  they gave more in depth information to things that were briefly mentioned in the article and editorial comments

        (6) Format, Number and Types of Questions: 8 Points (0-10)
there were 6 questions, which we only needed 5 which was the only problem.

        (7) Quality of the Questions: 9 Points (0-10)
not only were there 6 questions, but the 6th question was just a little wacky.  it was just there to be fun and make us think, but if this were to be published, it most likely should be eliminated

        (8) Overall Impression. 10 Points (0-10)
this was the best project that we have evaluated.  it was informative, not too lengthy, lots of good links, and followed up by pertinent and thought provoking questions.
