A melanoidin is the brown compound resulting from the reaction of DHA and amino acids within the skin responsible for the artificail hue fo the skin. Melanin is a natural biochrome that gives a healthy and optically pleasing appearance to the color of our skin. The differences in the skin color of human beings (white, fair, light tan, brown or dark brown or black) are due to the amount and the distribution of Melanin found in the epidermis and rarely in the dermis. Melanin serves as a photoprotective shield to the epidermal cells.
