(C) Responses to Various Evaluation Categories

(1) Topic Selection: 19 Points (0-20)
There is a good relation to organic chemistry but not extremely exciting.

(2) Newspaper and Article Selection: 9 Points (0-10)
The sources are very reliable and current, but are not very interesting.

There are good text references.

The links are great, embedded well within the text, and very colorful and
exciting.

The PSP question is very good. There is a good balance of chemistry and
thought questions.

For the first questions, some type of answer should be written out instead
of just the SEE TEXT reference.

(8) Overall Impression: 9 Points (0-10)
After a few minor adjustments this article could be used for publication.

Evaluation by Group 2

A) Group 2: The Carbon Crusaders

B) Group 4: Die Absoluten Nullpunkte

C) Responses to Various Evaluation Categories

1) Topic Selection
20 points - The topic is very relevant to people in the United States who
mow lawns with mainly combustion-engine mowers.

2) Newspaper Article Selection
9 points - Recent and worthy publishing body, but unknown author raises
questions.

3) Quality of the Editorial Comments
7 points - Well organized, but does not address the main issue in the
article, the dangerous carcinogens.

4) Organic Chemistry Content
10 points - Very clear and thorough explanation of the catalytic
converters, pertinent text references, all around great organic chemistry
content.

5) Quality of the Links
16 points - Some good links, but others didn't seem to have much to do
with the topic of the article. Some articles used in links were a bit out
of date.

6) Format, Number and Types of Questions
10 points - Excellent questions.

7) Quality of the Questions
10 points - ditto.

8) Overall Impression
9 points - Solid project, but not quite perfect.

Evaluation by Group 3

A) Group 3 : 4-OC-Studs
B) Group 4: Die Absoluten Nullpunkte
C)
1) Topic Selection : 20 / 20
This topic was pertinent to a broad audience and had a strong relation to
organic chemistry.
2) Newspaper and Article Selection: 9 / 10
The BBC news is a good source and it maintained its focus on the topic,
yet the article seemed too vague.
3) Quality of the Editorial Comments: 10 / 10
The comments are well written, have high quality, and are concise and
clear. They also tie in well to the article.
4) Organic Chemistry Content: 9 / 10
The key issue was highlighted well in the editorial comments, but was not
as clear in the article. Everyone with a little chemistry background
should understand the key concepts.
5) Selection and Quality of Links: 19 / 20
The Kyoto link does not work and there could have been more structures of
molecules.
6) Format, Number and Types of Questions: 10 / 10
Questions are thought provoking and meet requirements.
7) Quality of the Questions: 9 / 10
The link does not work in question 6 and question number 4 seems to be a
stretch.
8) Overall Impression: 9 / 10
This project seems fit for publication after a little bit of revision.
The project was intresting and informative.

Project Grade: 95 / 100
