Dehydrobromination: Conjugate Acid of the Base Catalyst

The bimolecular HBr elimination requires base catalysis. The base catalyst helps to remove a beta-hydrogen. Alkoxides are commonly used as bases in E2 reactions and they are converted into alcohols upon proton transfer. The structure of methanol is shown.
