Graduations:
Dr. Yongqiang "John" Sui successfully
defended his Doctoral Thesis on November 29, 2007. Congratulations! John has been
working on a diverse portfolio that included information technology
education, organic synthesis and materials research, and lots of structural studies
by experimental and computational means.
Mr. Shuo Yang successfully
defended his Master's Thesis in July 2007. Congratulations! Shuo contributed to
the "Ammonia" paper and he also has been working on some deamination chemistry.
Dr. Papiya Majumdar successfully
defended her Doctoral Thesis on May 1, 2007. Congratulations! Papiya authored and
co-authored three full papers and several more papers are being readied for
submission. The Future Scientists Project: Two former graduate students gave birth (again) in 2007! Congratulations!! Ms. Kathleen Carson (MU M.A. 2005) and husband Ben Niesen (MU Engineering 2005) welcomed their second child, Jack, on January 7, 2007, in St. Louis. Now a Texan, Dr. Hong Wu (MU Ph.D. 2005) and her husband Sam (MU M.S. 2002) are blessed with their first child, Eric, born December 8, 2007. Awards: Ms. Kathleen Carson wins the MU Distinguished Thesis Award for her M.A. thesis "Chemistry Is in the News: Assessing Intra-Group Peer Review". Alumni in Academia (6-1): Dr. Grace Chen (Ph.D. MU 1996, PD ETH Zuerich 1997, Humboldt PD Heidelberg 1998) was promoted to Associate Professor at Providence University, Shalu, Taiwan. Dr. Michael Lewis (Ph.D. MU 2001, PD Harvard 2001-4) wins Assistant Professorship at St. Louis University! Dr. Mitchell Anthamatten (B.S. MU 1996, Ph.D. MIT 2001, PD LLNL 2001-3) wins Assistant Professorship at the University of Rochester! Dr. Sundeep Rayat (Ph.D. MU 2002, PD OSU 2004-5) wins Assistant Professorship at Kansas State University. Dr. Jonathan Rhoad (Ph.D. OSU 2004, LS-PD MU 2005) wins Assistant Professorship at Missouri Western State University. Dr. Zhengyu "Martin" Wu (Ph.D. MU 2004) held a Full Professorship at Shenyang Ligong University, Shenyang City, China, 2005-6, before starting his own Telecommunications Company and joining Intellectual Ventures. | |
