You are welcome to join Dr. Gu's lab

You may be an excellent Biochemist, or a Biophysicist, or a Material Engineer. Dr. Gu's interdisciplinary lab welcomes people like you. Please see following position posts for Post docs, Laboratory Technicians, Graduate /Undergraduate, as well as Visiting Scientists. Please see contact information of Dr. Gu.

Graduate Researcher

Please contact Dr. Gu directly. You should be qualified. If you are in a different program or not yet in a program at UM, we can arrange you in this lab. The Graduate programs at UM include:

  • Biological Engineering Department
  • Department of Physiology
  • Dalton Center
  • Biochemistry

Undergraduate Researcher

The lab only takes on undergraduates who are willing to engage in a full summer learning experience or make a significant time commitment during the school year. These arrangements work well both for my laboratory and for serious undergraduate researchers.

Summer research  In general, this involves acceptance by one of the summer programs at TAMU, at least 10 weeks of full-time research, a fully documented written summary of your work, presentation of the work in the form of a poster and/or a talk.

Research during academic year  In special cases, it may be possible to work in the laboratory during the year, but this will involve a commitment of at least twenty hours a week for one year.

Please contact Dr. Gu if you are interested.

Undergraduate research programs include:

  • University Undergraduate Fellows Program
  • Department and Dalton Summer Undergraduate Research Program

Postdoctoral Positions

Positions are available for a biophysicist and a biochemist to work on structurally-defined engineered channel proteins. The biophysicist will perform planar bilayer recordings and carry out various spectroscopic experiments (CD, fluorescence, mass spectrometry). The biochemist will be engaged with the molecular genetics and protein chemistry of the channel proteins. Send your c.v. and up to three letters of reference to Dr. Gu directly.

Laboratory Technician Positions

A position as a technician is available in our laboratory. About half the time would be spent as a lab manager and the other half carrying out research under the supervision of a senior member of the laboratory. Our work involves molecular genetics, protein chemistry and the application of biophysical techniques. Send your c.v. and up to three letters of reference to Dr. L.Q. Gu.
