- Goal(s) for this Lesson:
- Student will have introductory knowledge of Library Information Systems (LIS) and their role, functions, and influences in libraries.
- Objective(s) for this Lesson:
- Student will be able to effectively utilize the MU Libraries MERLIN system as an example of a Library Information System.
- Student will be familiar with the evolution of Library Information Systems.
- Student will be able to identify and define characteristics of the application of Library Information Systems to a library, including reasons to automate and reasons not to automate.
- Student will be able to identify functions associated with Library Information Systems and their application in libraries.
- Student will be able to identify characteristics, from a library administration perspective, to be considered when choosing a Library Information System.
- Student will be able to identify characteristics, from an end uer perspective, to be considered when choosing a Library Information System.
- Student will be able to provide an opinion on the role and function of the Library Information System in relation to digital information (information not from print sources -- on the Web, etc.) and the notion of "collections".
