Student will have a general understanding of online databases, including their history, evolution, and issues related to their role and use in libraries.

Objective(s) for this Lesson:
Student will be able to access and effectively utilize an online database provided by the MU Libraries.
Student will be able to compare and contrast the features and functions of online databases.
Student will be able to identify and define the characteristics of the "players" associated with online databases, as illustrated in the online database model:
» Authors
» Primary / Secondary Publishers
» Database Producers
» Database Distributors (Vendors)
» Libraries / Document Delivery Services
» End Users
Student will be able to provide an opinion on the influence of these players at various levels of the online database model.
Student will be familiar with current trends in the online database industry and the influence of trends on libraries.
