- Student will have a general understanding of online databases, including their history, evolution, and issues related to their role and use in libraries.
- Objective(s) for this Lesson:
- Student will be able to access and effectively utilize an online database provided by the MU Libraries.
- Student will be able to compare and contrast the features and functions of online databases.
- Student will be able to identify and define the characteristics of the "players" associated with online databases, as illustrated in the online database model:
» Authors
» Primary / Secondary Publishers
» Database Producers
» Database Distributors (Vendors)
» Libraries / Document Delivery Services
» End Users
- Student will be able to provide an opinion on the influence of these players at various levels of the online database model.
- Student will be familiar with current trends in the online database industry and the influence of trends on libraries.
