| I am looking for
motivated graduate students and postdocs to work with me on a number of
research projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and
the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA): • Earthquakes geodynamics: To
understand crustal deformation, fault mechanics, and earthquakes by
integrating field observational data with computer modeling. Current
projects including studies in North China, California, Central and
Eastern US, the Central Andes, and the Dead Sea fault in Mideast.
TA
(Teaching Assistant ) and RA (Research Assistant) support are
available. My NSF-PIRE grant provides students unique opportunities for
international collaboration, including training in Chinese language and
culture, and traveling to China to work with Chinese students and
scientists. Please contact me if you are interested or need more
information. • Mountain building and continental tectonics: To understand long-term continental deformation and mountain building, their dynamic links with short-term crustal deformation, and their interplay with climate changes. Current projects includes studies in western US, the Himalayan-Tibetan Plateau, the Central Andes, and Asian tectonics. • Upper mantle dynamics: To understand how flow in the upper mantle interacts with and responds to lithospheric deformation by integrating seismic imaging of mantle structure with computer simulations. • Thermal processes in the solid Earth: To understand thermal evolution in the solid Earth and its role in various geological processes. Current projects including modeling thermal-geochemical processes in contact metamorphic aureoles. |
