With my
friend Dr. Greg Foster, the founder of the T. S. Eliot Forum, I participate in an internet
discussion forum of about 300 people who enjoy discussing the life and works
of T.S. Eliot. Information about the list and other features are found at TSE Site. I also moderate a discussion forum devoted to the works of James Merrill: James Merrill Discussion Forum |

Currently
I am writing about James Merrill's autobiographical poetry. An article titled
"Confession and Autobiography in James Merrill's Early Poetry"
appeared in the Summer 2003 Twentieth Century Literature. An article
entitled “Mirrored Lives: Elizabeth Bishop and James Merrill” was published
in the Summer 2005 Twentieth Century Literature, and "James Merrill's Polyphonic Muse" was
published in Contemporary Literature for
Summer 2006. "James Merrill's Late Poems: AIDS and the "Stripping
Process," is forthcoming in The Arizona Quarterly. Here is a short biography that I wrote about
Merrill for The
Literary Encyclopedia. I
organized a seminar on "The Modernist Poem in Midcentury America"
for the Modernist Studies Association meeting in Madison, Wisconsin, October
2002. See the Modernist Studies
Association Website for information about the MSA. In November 2005, I
chaired a MSA seminar at the Chicago meeting entitled “Figuring the Self.” In May, I will present a paper on T.
S. Eliot's poetry at the American Literature Association meeting in Boston. |
