Free speech is a fundamental topic in the study of communication. Under what conditions can communication be restricted? We will explore the arguments that have been made for freedom of speech and restrictions on freedom of speech. In applying these concepts, we will consider freedom of speech issues in relationship to the media and the current controversy regarding the government’s attempt to regulate indecency on the internet.
