Staff Education Award

PURPOSE:
The MU Staff Advisory Council Education Endowment Award Program is intended principally to assist in personal and professional development through providing funding for classes/courses at local institutes of higher education.

ELIGIBILITY:
1.  Applicants must be full time (> 75% FTE) permanent University of Missouri-Columbia non-academic staff members who have successfully completed six months of continuous employment with the University by application deadline.

2.  Current MU Staff Advisory Council and Staff Development Award Program Committee members are not eligible to participate while serving their term.

3.  Funds will not be provided for courses or registration deadlines that occur prior to the funds availability date.

4.  APPLICATIONS MUST BE LEGIBLE.  Printed or type written proposals are preferred.

ENDOWMENT DISTRIBUTION CRITERIA:
1.  A one page summary or letter, completed application form describing the course, credit hours, location and budget shall be submitted in accordance with published deadlines.  One application per individual will be considered during any given round.  An individual can receive only one MU Staff Advisory Council Education Award per year.
 
2.  Individual awards will not exceed $250 per round.

3.  Proposals from staff who are eligible for Educational Assistance or Adult Education courses that are paid by the University are not eligible for support from this program.   However, the remaining 25% not covered by the above-mentioned assistance programs, as well as any other educational costs that have not been reimbursed (books, fees, etc...) may be considered for support from this program.   For information regarding Educational Assistance or the Adult Education benefit program, campus staff should call Human Resource Services at 882-7976; hospital staff should call 882-8186.

4.  The following will NOT be funded:  speaker honoraria, in-house seminars, certification exams only, magazine/journal subscriptions, dues, or equipment.

5.  Expenditures funded and reimbursement procedures must be in accordance with University regulations and consistent with approved budget.

6.  Proposals will be evaluated using the following criteria:
Quality of proposal (Is the individual enhanced professionally/personally? Is the proposal clear, coherent and specific?)
Feasibility of request (Is it accomplishable?)

Conforms to stated criteria/procedures (Is the applicant eligible? Was the deadline met? Does request meet funding availability timeframe?)

Consistency of outcome (Are the benefits anticipated consistent with stated purpose of the course?)

Budget feasibility (Is the budget justifiable? Is it properly itemized?)

7. Successful applicants are required to submit a brief written report summarizing their educational experience within thirty days following completion of the course.  A copy of expense documents and proof of grade received should be attached.  Failure to submit a report may disqualify future applications.

1.  Application forms available online or by calling the MU Staff Advisory Council Office, 27 Jesse Hall.  Submit completed applications to the MU Staff Advisory Council Education Endowment Award Program, 27 Jesse Hall.

The deadline for submitting proposals for the awards are:
December 14 (January 15 award)
April 17 (May 19 award)
August 14 (September 15 award)
