Welcome to Terra Nova!

The name "Terra Nova" means "new land" or "new earth." The idea behind the name is that we folks who live at Terra Nova are making the earth new again-- by living in a more peaceful, cooperative and earth-friendly way.

Terra Nova and other groups of people who live according to a common set of principles are sometimes called "intentional communities." Many intentional communities share common interests and have formed associations such as the Fellowship of Intentional Community.

There are hundreds of intentional communities. Many groups aim to make the world a better place and, at the same time, help their members live happier, more meaningful lives.

Terra Nova is a small, urban-based intentional community. We live in two adjacent houses in Columbia, Missouri. Home to the University of Missouri, Columbia is a medium-sized town located halfway between St. Louis and Kansas City on Interstate 70. While we value town living, we also appreciate a closeness to nature. This closeness is expressed in gardening activities and ecological awareness.
