Research

My research focuses on gender differences in children's and adolescents' peer relationships and the effects of these differences on youth's social, emotional, and behavioral well-being. Much of our work focuses on disclosure processes in the friendships of girls and boys, including a construct referred to as "co-rumination" that involves youth (usually girls) talking excessively about problems within their friendships. Other research in our laboratory focuses on coping and social support processes, relational aggression, perceived popularity, and early romantic relationships.
