The Kansas City Branch of John Deere invited the University of Missouri to form
a partnership that would serve to strengthen the agricultural machinery industry by producing well rounded, experienced students.
This effort has become a model for other academic disciplines at the University of Missouri and other mid-west
universities. We anticipate that development of future industry- academic relationships in Agricultural Systems Management will be built on the
experiences from this program.
John Deere Dealership Management students become familiar with the day-to-day operation and
management of a John Deere dealership. Students spend a minimum of two summers working at a
dealership to develop this background. The first summer is basically a hands-on experience working
at a sponsoring dealership. The second summer of employment is an internship designed by the
owner/manager of the dealership, John Deere technical advisor and the student's academic advisor.
Students and the owner/manager essentially identify and solve real problems for the dealership.
Courses have been hand selected by John Deere Company and Program Faculty. These courses provide a strong knowledge in business
management which complements the technical Agricultural System Management courses.
Applications to the program may be obtained from a sponsoring John Deere dealer, territory manager, by contacting Leon Schumacher in Agricultural Systems Management (Voice: 573-882-2126 or Fax: 573=884-5650 or email Leon Schumacher).
