What is Lignin?

Lignin-free. We all know everything should be lignin-free. Lignin = bad. But what is lignin?

Lignin is an important component of plant cell walls. Indeed, it is the second most common compound in plants. Since plants make up the largest % of living tissue on earth, lignin is the second most common biocompound on earth!

So? What is lignin good for except making paper shopping hard? If it were not for lignin, plants would still be aquatic! They would lack the support needed for them to stand upright. That either means that our evolutionary ancestors would have to stay with their food source in the ooze, or we would be eating mold - EWW! God's plan is good, and lignin is not so bad either!

Why is lignin bad for scrapbooks? Well, when lignin breaks down, it turns paper brown. Ever seen old newspapers? Needless to say, newspapers are not lignin-free! We don't want our dear scrapbooks turning brown, so the paper needs to be lignin-free.
