students learn to apply the study of communication to their professional
and personal lives. The University of Missouri-Columbia offers
the undergraduate Bachelor of Arts, and the graduate Masters of
Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Communication.
he faculty have national and international
reputations for research on political, interpersonal, organizational,
and media communication. They have won prestigious awards for
their excellence in teaching and advising both undergraduate and
graduate students, including three William T. Kemper Fellowships
for Teaching Excellence and a Provost Outstanding Junior Faculty
Award.
ur program has consistently been ranked among the top programs in the nation. Most recently, an article published in Communication Reports in December 2007 ranked our program 16th in the nation for reputation among Ph.D. programs according to communication faculty responding to the survey. Another article published early in 2007 in The Chronicle of Higher Education reported that a study by Academics Analytics rated our department as a Top Ten Program in the United States based on the research productivity of our faculty.
few years ago, an article published in the Journal of Communication (2005) ranked our program 4th in publications by current faculty in the top National Communication Association and International Communication Association journals from 1999-2004. Bill Benoit is ranked second for publications among all professors according to the article. Another article published in Communication Quarterly (2004) ranked our department 14th based on publications from 1915-2001. Bill Benoit is ranked the 10th most published active scholar for the entire period.
