Donald Packwood (Ph.D., 1971) -- donatmualum@dlpackwood.com
Ph. D. Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
I retired in 1998 from a wonderful career developing processes to make computer and cell phone chips for HP. I also helped co-invent the metallization structure that makes HP's InkJet cartridges squirt ink. It was adapted from a metallization structure I invented for bipolar microwave transistors. As a student, I hadn't intended to become an industrial physicist, but it suited my abilities perfectly. I feel my physics background gave me an edge over engineers in solving problems. Since 1998, I have been giving back to the department by serving on the Physics Leaders alumni support group. I have served as the second president and have organized three career symposia and panel discussions. I also serve on the College of A&S Strategic Development Board.
