The council consists of 16 members elected for three-year terms. Staff Council members are elected from the following groups.
1.  Technical/Paraprofessional - includes non-exempt staff and positions requiring specialized knowledge or skills which may be acquired through experience, technical or other training.
2.  Secretarial/Clerical - includes office staff designated non-exempt and not considered technical.
3.  Crafts/Maintenance - includes non-exempt skilled, semi-skilled, apprenticed crafts, trades staff and service staff.
4.  Administrative/Professional - includes exempt non-academic administrative professional and managerial staff.

Each group elects four (4) members to serve terms of three (3) years. One term expires each year; two terms expire every third year.

Elections are held annually in July. Staff employees may make nominations through May. Candidates nominated will be contacted by the Election Committee to determine their willingness to run.  Any benefit eligible MU staff – 75% or more FTE – with at least one year of service before nomination is eligible for election. Nominations forms can be downloaded and mailed to the SAC office at 27 Jesse Hall.
