ACADEMIC STANDING OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
1. A student whose TERM
and cumulative grade point averages are 2.0 or higher is in good academic standing. The cumulative grade point average is computed from all courses taken on the four campuses of the UM system, with the exception of courses repeated at MU under the Repeat Policy. A
TERM is defined as a FALL SEMESTER, a WINTER SEMESTER, or SUMMER SEMESTER.
2. A student will be placed on academic probation if:
- When in good academic standing, he/she has a TERM GPA less than 2.0 but equal to or greater than 1.0.
- He/she transfers into the College or Engineering without meeting the minimum standards set by the College for admission in good academic standing.
3. A student on academic probation has not more than two SEMESTERS to remove himself/herself from probation.
- WHILE ON academic probation a student must enroll in and complete each SEMESTER
at MU at least 12 hours of course work necessary for the degree. Courses taken through UM's Center for Independent Study count as part of this 12 hours. Part-time students must enroll in at least as many hours each
SEMESTER as stipulated in the college rules governing part-time enrollment.
- A student will be REMOVED from probation at the end of that TERM (FS, WS, SS) when his/her TERM and overall GPA is 2.0 or higher for courses necessary for the degree.
- A student will be CONTINUED on probation for one SEMESTER if at the end of his/her first SEMESTER on probation, he/she has failed to remove himself/herself from probation and has
TERM (FS, WS, SS) GPA greater than or equal to 2.0.
4. A student will be DISMISSED from the University if he/she:
- Receives a TERM (FS, WS, SS) GPA of less than 1.0.
- Receives a TERM (FS, WS, SS) GPA of less than 2.0 while on probation.
- Fails to remove himself/herself from probation by the end of the second SEMESTER after being placed on probation.
5. If a student has been dismissed for academic reasons, he/she may be readmitted upon a successful appeal to the Academic Appeals
Committee of the College. The primary concern of the Appeals Committee is the likelihood of future success. Accordingly any appeal should include causes for past poor performance and reasons for expecting better in
the future. When the Appeals Committee allows a student to reenroll, it may set conditions such as courses to be taken, minimum grades, total hours, etc. to which the student must adhere. 6. A student who has been twice dismissed will normally be ineligible for readmission.. |
