INTRODUCTION

This handbook has been prepared to assist you in your pursuit of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and to make your years at the University of Missouri-Columbia a more meaningful and rewarding educational experience.  You are encouraged to read this handbook and to obtain copies of the various other publications referred to throughout this booklet, which are available through the College of Engineering, Admissions Office, University Publications, and the University Bookstore.

During your college career, it is anticipated that you will occasionally have questions or problems.  It is our hope that this handbook will assist you in answering most of those questions.  However, if after consulting this handbook your questions are not sufficiently answered, you are encouraged to consult with your academic advisor, any member of the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering faculty, the Undergraduate Program Director, the Chairman, or staff in the departmental office.

Particular attention should be given to the section in the handbook entitled
"Typical Mechanical Engineering Curriculum".  This section will assist you in the preparation of your program of study each semester, and it will help you keep a record of your progress.  You are encouraged to utilize the forms provided in this handbook, with the help of your advisor, to aid you in planning your program of study.
