Dr. Steven P. Neal (Project 10) Development of a Multiple Scattering Meter In acoustic (and electromagnetic) wave scattering, incident waves may scatter off of more than one object before propagating to the receiver. This is known as multiple scattering. Knowledge of the degree of multiple scattering present, as a function of frequency, in a remote sensing problem would be useful in guiding detection/imaging approaches, in selection of appropriate models for the problem, and possibly directly for materials characterization. The goal of this project is to develop both a beam splitter and an array-based approach for quantifying the degree of multiple scattering – thus, a multiple scattering meter.
