Graduate Student Component for Electronic Photojournalism
A requirement of this course (and every other School of Journalism course) is a 'graduate student component.'
This component helps you synthesize your experience. It also helps you gain a deeper understanding of the foundation principles and concepts of online communication and interactivity that are fundamental to this course.
For your graduate project you will work as a group to develop a web site. The content of the site will be interactive tutorial materials for classes in the photojournalism department. You will work as a group to develop the site structure and to build the site. In addition you will individually create a specific tutorial.
This project will give you a deeper experience in web development than you will receive building your own site. You will have to identify clients, consider their needs and develop a site structure and plan to meet those needs. You will have to create some content and gather content from others. And you will have to work as a team, identifying strengths and weaknesses and dividing the responsibilities to ensure the success of the project.
In addition to the site, you will submit intermediate work throughout the semester, including an assessment of the clients, their needs and a plan to address them, a preliminary site map and outline of content and a draft version of the site. You will also each submit an individual critique of your experience with the project.
Deadlines will be provided in class.
