Environmental Studies Certificate

The Environmental Studies Certificate complements a given major with 18 hours of interdisciplinary coursework focused on environmental topics. The certificate is available to all majors at MU, but because of the variety of majors offered, and the certificate's goal of creating a complementary educational experience, students working on a certificate are required to select courses for the certificate in consultation with the office of Environmental Studies. Courses with environmental content are not necessarily approved for a particular student's certificate program. Advising by Environmental Studies will compliment, but not replace, advising in the student's degree program.

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Complete a program of study in an existing major leading to an MU bachelor degree.
  • Complete two Foundation courses
  • Complete three hours of interdisciplinary environmentally related Seminar courses.
  • Complete two environmentally related Breadth courses at the 2000 or above level.
  • Complete an approved 3-hour interdisciplinary capstone experience that integrates and/or applies knowledge from diverse fields. A student may fulfill the capstone requirement for the certificate through a capstone in the degree field if the capstone is environmentally related.
