Letter to New Students

Dear Student,

Welcome to Mizzou! Whether you are coming to MU from high school, a community college, or a four year university, you will find Mizzou to be a distinctly different place with many wonderful challenges and opportunities. The Office of New Student Parent & Programs looks forward to assisting you as you make the transition to MU.

To do this, we are offering three opportunities for new students to attend Winter Welcome. Winter Welcome is the orientation, advisement, and registration program for new students beginning at MU in the spring 2008 semester.

During your one-day Winter Welcome session, you will meet with an academic advisor, register for classes, learn about University services, resources, and policies, receive your student ID, meet other new MU students, learn how to use your MU technology account, and receive answers to any questions you may have. You should complete your day no later than 5:00p.m.

Beginning November 5, please visit web.missouri.edu/new2mu to complete an online reservation for a one-day Winter Welcome session on December 7, 2007, January 14 or January 15, 2008. When you complete your online reservation, you will also have the opportunity to register guests that may attend the session with you (there is a $12 guest orientation fee per person over 18 years of age), order a membership to the MU Parents Association, and purchase an MU t-shirt. If any of your registered guests change their schedule and can't attend, you must call us at least three business days before your session and we will issue you a refund for all appropriate expenses. Please note our reservation deadlines:

                        Winter Welcome Session                   Reservation Deadline
                        Friday, December 7, 2007                      Monday, December 3, 2007
                        Monday, January 14, 2008                      Wednesday, January 9, 2008
                        Tuesday, January 15, 2008                     Wednesday, January 9, 2008

Check-in for Winter Welcome will be from 7:45a.m. – 8:45a.m. in the Life Sciences Center at the corner of Rollins Street and College Avenue. Parking will be available at the Virginia Avenue Parking Structure with a valid permit. A parking permit with a map and directions is enclosed.

An early move-in option is only available for the January 15 session for students who have signed a contract with Residential Life to live in the campus residence halls for the spring 2008 semester. To take advantage of this early move-in option on January 15, you must register for Winter Welcome no later than January 10, 2008. You must also select “Night of Session” in the “Attending Student” section of the Winter Welcome reservation form. You will need to check in at the front desk of your residence hall between noon and 3pm OR 5pm and 7pm before unloading your belongings. The early move-in option is not available for the December 7, 2007 and January 14, 2008 sessions, but a list of local lodging can be found at http://www.visitcolumbiamo.com/web/where_to_stay/index.php.

We look forward to seeing you at Winter Welcome. If you have any questions, please call 573-884-9868.

With Tiger Pride,
OFFICE OF NEW STUDENT & PARENT PROGRAMS

  • All new MU students are required to pay a one-time enrollment fee of $150. This fee may be paid when you register for Winter Welcome online at web.missouri.edu/new2mu. The enrollment fee is refundable until January 1, 2008. All students must pay the $150 fee before attending one of the Winter Welcome sessions. If you choose to pay your enrollment fee online through the Office of Admissions (enrollmentfee.missouri.edu) or in person at the Cashiers Office, please allow 48 hours for the payment to process before attempting to register for a Winter Welcome session.
  • Confirmation of your Winter Welcome reservation will be sent via email to the address you have provided Mizzou.

  • Be sure to bring the blue parking pass to your Winter Welcome session and display the front portion in the windshield of your vehicle.
  • Transfer students are encouraged to bring a copy of their most recent transcript.

Spring Interest Group

MU will be offering transfer students in the College of Business a chance to participate in a Spring Interest Group. Transfers participating in this program will have the opportunity to take a one-credit hour course with other students who are enrolled in the same Spring Interest Group. The course, which will be co-taught by an upper class student and a faculty/staff member, will introduce you to the resources available at MU as well as the opportunities for involvement in the field of business. There will also be various optional social and academic opportunities outside the classroom. We believe this is a great opportunity to meet other new transfer students and learn more about business and the MU community. For more information or to register, please talk to your academic advisor in the College of Business at Winter Welcome.
