MU Summer Semester in Manchester, England Starting in the summer of 2008, MU's International Center and Department of English will join forces with the University of Manchester and Centre for New Writing to offer a unique, four-week program. Specifically geared toward juniors and seniors who have at least a 3.0 GPA, the program consists of a literature course and a creative writing workshop, each offered for 3 credits. Within the last decade, Manchester has established itself as a truly international city, with a booming city centre filled with theaters, museums, fine restaurants, and nightclubs. You can experience underground music concerts in the Northern Quarter or take in plays at the historical Royal Exchange or Palace Theatres. The city itself has a population of nearly 450,000 people, though the larger area of "Greater Manchester" now has close to 3 million residents. You can also escape to the nearby picturesque Lake District for some nature or hop on a train and be in London in 2.5 hours. Roughly the size of MU, the University of Manchester has a population of just over 27,000 students.
