Woldendorp, Keman and Budge (2000) Party Government data set updated through 2012:

This page provides the various data sets, supporting materials and Stata files required for creating the governments and ministers data sets in a variety of units of analysis. Please cite the following: Katsunori Seki and Laron K. Williams, 2014. "Updating the Party Government Data Set", Electoral Studies.

Data:

Stata files:

  • Change Unit of Analysis of Government Data: Stata do file that takes the Governments data and changes the unit of analysis to annual, quarterly, monthly or daily.

  • Create Government Party Data: Stata do file that changes the unit of analysis from government to government party.

  • Create Government Partisanship: Stata do file that uses the Manifesto Project data to produce government (and PM) partisanship data (e.g., left-right position, dove/hawk position, etc) at a variety of units of analysis (annual, quarterly, monthly or daily). NOTE: One must run the other two do files before running this one. Also, this produces a data set with the time/year as the unit of analysis, meaning that there will be multiple observations for the time periods where a government change occurs. For example, in a year/government data set, there will be multiple observations for the year of an election.
