Chengshan Xiao received the B.S. degree from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China, in 1987, the M.S. degree from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1989, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia, in 1997, all in electrical engineering.

From 1989 to 1993, he was a research staff and then a lecturer with the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. During his Ph.D. study between 1993 and 1997, he was invited to visit and conduct research with a number of Australian and Canadian universities. From 1997 to 1999, he was a Senior Member of Scientific Staff with Wireless Solutions at Nortel Networks, Ottawa, Canada. From 1999 to 2000, he was a faculty member with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri.

Dr. Xiao has conducted extensive research on a broad range of practical and theoretical topics in wireless communications, signal processing, and feedback control. His doctoral research focused on the design and implementation of multidimensional filters and filter banks, feedback control and spectral factorization. During his career at Nortel Networks, he has worked on wireless channel estimation, mobile speed estimation, and channel equalization. Two of his algorithms have been implemented into Nortel Networks' wireless products. Since he joined the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2000, Dr. Xiao has worked on MIMO channel modeling and simulation, multiuser channel estimation, channel equalization, system performance analysis, and doubly selective MIMO channel capacity. He has not only published more than 30 journal papers in the prestigeous IEEE Transactions and other refereed international journals, but also created three inventions that have been granted United States patents.

Dr. Xiao is currently an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, the international journal of Multidimensional Systems and Signal Processing. Previously, he was an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems: Part I - Fundamental Theory and Applications. Dr. Xiao is also serving as the Vice-Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Personal Communications.
