I find politics to be tremendously fascinating and exciting, and I try to pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm to each student I teach.  My goal is for the students to leave class with a greater understanding of the course’s content and theory and to develop a critical pattern of thinking that extends their understanding and appreciation of the political world in which they live.  To accomplish this in my undergraduate classes, I strive to make each course challenging and relevant, while engaging the students and highlighting the central, explanatory role of theory.  In my graduate courses, I also seek to pass along my enthusiasm but place more emphasis on mentoring the students outside the classroom so that they become strong scholars, teachers, and professionals upon graduation.

I teach a wide variety of courses and have co-authored an introductory textbook.
